Coach Lynn Silvis' Testimonials

Gus has been doing great and is doing much better around other people. He still will have his moments, but the techniques you showed us have definitely helped. Being outside around kids and friends in the neighborhood this summer has also helped him. Now when he hears the neighbors outside he'll wag his tail and want us all to go out to join the fun. He doesn't play, but he likes being a part of the gathering. Mostly, Steph feels a lot better about his behavior and our ability to keep him in line -- which makes all our lives better. We still have your number standing by in case we feel lost again. Thanks for all your help. We really appreciate it!

Best,
Wendell Andersson
Hi Lynn!
I'm the person you talked to on the phone twice one day last week about our new Bernese Mountain Dog puppy JoJo--the One Who Would Not Be Confined. We just returned from 3 nights with another family at their cabin, and JoJo did GREAT. Each night went wonderfully. We woke her up to take her out, gave her little hotdog pieces to reward her, and she didn't bark or whimper once on any of the 3 nights. She even began willingly going into her crate on her own. It was a miracle. I am referring to you as The Good Dog Whisperer (as opposed to the other trainer from a different place who told me to pinch my puppy's Adam's apple and put her in her crate in our car all night, who I refer to as The Bad Dog Whisperer.)

I am looking through the schedule and hope to sign up for your puppy class in St. Paul starting August 29th. Thank you soooo much for taking the time to talk to me and help us make our sweet little puppy to not be fearful of her crate. You are amazing!

Sincerely,
Nancy Brandt
Hey Lynn, Thanks again for coming over last night. We appreciate your knowledge and your time and my mom is now raving about you. You have made another new fan. You have been so helpful in the past that I know we will be successful with sweet Leo too.

Thank You!
Jodi Peterson
Hi, Lynn. Just wanted to update you on Stella. She took to her kennel training immediately. In fact I have to pick it up and put it away so she won't crawl in to await treats for good behavior. Haven't made a plane trip yet, that is next week but I hope the 2-3 times a day training will imbed the routine. I'll keep you posted after our first flight but in stead of dreading it, I am almost looking forward to it. You are a miracle worker. Thanks!!!

Hi Lynn,
Graham, Hanna and I had so much fun today at your class. The activities were exciting and challenging! And I loved how you ran the class. I was with some groups of friends today sharing our positive experience so you may get some calls in the future.

We can't wait until next week. Thanks.

Ellen Hanna and Graham
Lynn,
We just wanted to say hello, thank you, and give you an update on Bode. After taking your level 2 obedience we went on to take the therapy dog class and agility 2. He loved them both agility a little bit more though :). Last week he passed the canine good citizen test it took two tries (and yes it was the part when I had to leave the room for three minutes). But he passed it the second time we took the test. And last night he passed the delta society therapy dog test. I am so proud of him even without these great things, but we feel thanks to you and obedience level 1 and the puppy class we took with you we got off to a good start and on the right foot. So thank you to you and all the staff at the canine coach, you guys rock!

Take care,
Peggy and Bode Roy
I just want to express our thanks and appreciation for the professional and fun tone we had with Obedience I and II with Lynn Silvis. She helped us see our dog through our eyes and understand dog language through the dogs behavior. It has made a world of difference in everyone's behavior. And what is dog training but the owner's training!

I can tell Lynn knows an extensive amount about dog psychology, behavior and traits. That was very important and built trust. If all of your trainers are as good as she, you are a blessed woman! Leash pulling is next on the docket! Again thanks for having quality classes available!

The girls are doing very well. We practice the thing where Indie has to look at Chili (to acknowledge Chili's presence...I forgot what you called it) in order to get a "reward" twice a day...at mealtime using food instead of treats. Mealtime was the biggest problem we had but doing it this way goes pretty smooth. Today I felt like we could try it without the harnesses on and they did so good...no fights at all! Indie has gotten the "name recognition" thing down like a pro...Chili gets it but we are still working on getting her to come when I am in a different room. I did the room confinement thing with Indie over the weekend...and Indie stayed in the bedroom and watched while I worked on training with Chili in the living room...I couldn't believe my eyes!? I totally underestimated their little chihuahua sized brains! Thanks for your help...your tips were very helpful. I do plan to get them in some training classes in the near future. And Indie had her prednisone dose cut in half on Saturday...and will be done with it altogether in about a month as long as everything continues to go well.

Thanks,
Rachel (& Indie & Chili)
I just wanted to send you a note letting you know how great it was to have Lynn out at my place last week to help me with some resource guarding and alpha issues. She was so informative, fun, and helpful. She really made me feel like the job I have straightening out my pups was very attainable and didn't make me feel guilty or silly for having gotten into my situation by treating my eldest dog like a kid more so than my pet.

Thanks for providing this service, and thanks for having such great staff!!

Hi Lynn,

I just want to thank you for taking the time to talk with me yesterday about Elsa's "sudden-onset" dog aggression. As you could probably tell, I'm more than a little concerned about this behavior. It's nice to know that there are resources out there like the Canine Coach who can help us address the problem -- that we don't have to deal with this alone. Your advice with Lilith worked wonders for her (and us) in the short time we had her, and I'm looking forward to learning more from you, Maureen and the rest of the trainers.

Thank you again for your help and your time - Geoff and I appreciate it very much.

Hi Lynn,

This week has gone very, very well. [Rufus had severe separation anxiety.]

No gnawing, chewing, clawing, pooping or peeing. Jim thinks he may be still gnawing on the frame of the basement door, but we haven't seen any shavings and I'm not so sure it wasn't that bad from his last big episode. He still freaks out a little when we come home, but has been quieting down very quickly. He must be one of those dogs that hates being confined.

So, we're overall very happy. Jim is already talking about taking him off the Prozac. I want to wait until the prescription needs refilling and see where he's at.

Please sign Joey up for the play group on 1-25-09. I'm starting to under stand what he is afraid of. Thanks for all your help. I think this is one of the best things I 'm doing for this dog. Thanks, Judy

[This is from Joey’s mom, the little white cocker's owner you called me with a heads up due to listing biting on the play time sign up a couple of weeks ago. The first play time he came in pretty growly and I set them up in a safe pen and had her play with him and feed treats. This week we started out the same way and transitioned him out along the perimeter on leash with lots of treats, and play (taught her how to protect him and to read his body language). He had several nice interactions and she was very successful at blocking the more assertive dogs, getting his attention before he became overwhelmed and keeping things light. By the end of the play session, she was playing with him off leash in the mellow dog area (I've been dividing the room in half for small dog group since we have several very small and/or shy dogs that get overwhelmed by the more active play and I want everyone to have fun). He did great! He was sniffing and allowing other dogs to sniff him and the owner was great--keeping him focused on her alot, but allowing him to interact some. She left very happy and I was thrilled Joey got to play some!
Hi Lynn,
It has been about 4 weeks now, the holidays have passed, and I wanted to say thank you so much for coming over to my house and helping me with my dog, Kermit. My boyfriend Dan mentioned that he was impressed and liked your approach to training, too. He may not have looked like it, but he took in quite a bit, and we have been working on establishing a connection between boyfriend and dog. They may never be best buddies, but I can tell Dan is trying and the house has been more peaceful. You have good energy and explained things so well!

It is still a process and I have a ways to go. I continue de-conditioning Kermit to not be so reactive at the front door. I practice "back," owning space, and making the dog work for everything. So I keep on keepin' on, I guess.

Thanks again, Lynn!

Margaret Hegg , Minneapolis
Lynn,
You visited us before the holidays to work on Faith's leash aggression. The key is definitely that harness, she only stays at my side with that on. Which is fine! I guess she identifies it with the correct behavior.

We still have problems with hyper dogs coming at us, but, something interesting happens instead of the stalking. Faith knows that we can circle around the dog now. She actually stops when she sees the dog, turns to go out into the road and walk around, without me leading her, she leads. I just have to watch for cars....

It is so interesting. She is getting better. I can see it will mean more work and vigilance to see who or what is coming around the corner so we aren't suprised. My hearing is improving as a result I think!

Thanks for the help.

Suzanne Colbeigh
I was SOOOO excited, I almost didn't believe it when Barb said he passed. [Delta Therapy Test] Wow. He did so good. She thinks that he is a dog who sort of knows when he is "on" and working, and with a scarf or bandana will be a great therapy dog because he will know he needs to behave.

Thanks so much for your help!!! Thank you, thank you thank you!!!

Hi Lynn,

Thank you SO much for helping me with Noodle and Scooter. Noodle is on his way to being adopted tomorrow, and we've made AWESOME progress on the potty training. The only accident we had (since you left) was when I did not kennel him at night. He jumped down from the bed in the morning and peed on the hardwood floor. Needless to say - he's been kenneled at night every since! :) I do think though he is doing VERY well with his potty training. The method you taught me has really worked. The only problem is when I try to take him out too much - he doesn't have to go.

Thanks much!

Oh - and Scooter had a successful "mailman" experience today. I was able to keep him in the hallway and calm for ALMOST the whole time. I still have more work to do, but I have been practicing!!! It works! Thank you again for your help! He seems to be doing better all in all with his fear. :)

Regards,
Michelle Langmo
Thanks so much for all you have done for me and Benny, Lynn. I have to say you have been the best instructor I have encountered along the way, and have given me both some new tools to work with (love that body block), as well as confidence! I almost gave up, but thanks to you I don't feel so discouraged. I hope to see you again someday. I might make it to one of those play times on Sundays, so I'll hope to see you then.

Thanks again for everything.

Martha Anderson (and Benny)
Hi Lynn,
I just wanted to write a quick note thanking you for your help last night with Braden. Last night when my husband came home from work, I showed him what we had learned by keeping Braden out of the kitchen while we were washing dishes and it worked great! Braden didn't even try to cross the line.

Then this morning I thought we might only make it around the block because I would have to correct him so many times BUT he proved me wrong. I only needed to correct him 3 times on our walk and we went 2.5 miles! It was great, amazing and relieving all at the same time. I'm so thankful for the instant results. I think I'm still in shock! I can't wait for Saturday to keep practicing in different situations. I feel like we are communicating for the first time. I also can't wait to try these techniques on any foster dogs we get in the future.

Thanks again--
Kara Arzamendia
Hi Lynn, We just wanted to say HI! Rather Bowser wanted to say hi really badly when we saw you yesterday (saturday) outside the minnehaha dog park. We saw that you were working with a client though and didn't want to interrupt.

We are doing well with his "dog agression." Since our meeting with Maureen, he has greatly improved. There are times when he does not react at all to dogs we pass! Peter has been very impressed.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and tell you we are well. Thank you again for all you taught us in class. We took everything to heart and Maureen said she was also impressed with how much we learned from you. Bowser loves going to the dog parks now and only rarely do we have to haul him out of there for bad behavior. Everyone comments on what a well behaved, calm, good mannered dog he is. So thank you! We owe a lot of that to you.

Kim and Peter Stevenson and Bowser
We would like to thank you for the opportunity in participating in your classes and appreciation the wonderful progress Dozer has made with your guidance. He has become so much more than we ever thought and has added a lot of enjoyment to our family. Maybe our paths will cross again in the future. We, especially Dozer, will miss the other classmates and the wonderful experience. Say Hi to everyone for us and Dozer. See ya…

Grace, Clarke and Dozer Huebener
Twyla and I are having fun; I'm learning a lot about training; Lynn is fantastic and answers questions readily. In fact, we had been to obedience at another school, which was too big and the teachers seemed to focus more on dogs in the show ring doing complicated exercises instead of just helping our little pals become good pets. We are very satisfied.

Jodie Ahern
We have had so much fun! Lynn has offered some really great advice that is simple and easy to work into our daily and weekly schedule. Lynn is friendly, courteous and a great class leader! She has so much knowledge to offer us from her experience as a vet tech and her training experience.

Hello, We are big fans of the Canine Coach for all our dog's needs. We have taken Obedience I and II, Dog to Dog Socialization (for aggressive dogs) and recently completed Agility for Fun.

We just wanted to write and tell you how wonderful we think Lynn is as a trainer. She has been with us for 3 out of 4 classes. We love her energy, humor and love for dogs. Our dog Bowser, just hears her name and goes crazy!

Lynn has helped us on more than one occasion when we were having problems with Bowser outside of class. She was very willing to give us advice via email that worked right away. She is sensible, positive and goes above and beyond to help her clients.

We recommend the Canine Coach and Lynn to anyone who will listen! You are worth the drive and we look forward to working with you more in the future.

Thanks to all of you there.
Kim, Peter and Bowser Stevenson
I just wanted to let you know that I thought Lynn was great. Thanks for referring her my way.

Take care,

Lynn, I am happy to report that we have had no more incidents of Penny attacking/cornering Leo. And, instead they are actually playing together nicely every day. I think Penny might enjoy the new, stricter version of us? We aren't perfect but we had a few very useful take always from your visit and things are significantly better. THANK YOU! You really know your dog stuff lady!

Sincerely, Jody, Ryan, Little Penny and Leo the Gordon.
Hi Lynn, Meeka is doing very well with her new "how to be a really good girl" training! She has been listening wonderfully, I'm pretty impressed with her! It's good training for me as well.

Thank you so much for your time and flexibility. I really enjoyed working with you and just learning what we did in the time we were out last Tuesday has made a significant improvement in both human and dog behavior.

Jenn, Eagan
The class is great and so is Lynn! I talked my neighbor into joining us. Looking forward to the next two classes.

I'm a huge fan of all of our Canine Coaches! I'm so happy I found you!

Hi Lynn,

Colten is doing fabulous!! We have gone to walking him in the "zone" all of the time. I think it is helping Colten realize he needs to be good the whole walk. We can walk by people pretty well and dogs are getting much better. He still gets excited around other critters like rabbits, but I am very comfortable that we will overcome that challenge with more and more practice.

It's getting better and better each day. He's one of the better dogs when we walk around the lake too!

We really appreciate your help!!! Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!

Jess, DJ and Colten, Minneapolis
Hi Lynn, Every morning I tell myself I need to e-mail you as we are walking, but then I forget!

It is incredible! He is doing a fantastic job and even got a compliment on his walking! Yeah! I cannot believe how quickly he has caught on- when we meet a dog or see a dog I just stop and he stops and either sits or just watches until the dog goes past and does not get all worked up.

Thank you so much! I have been saying wonderful things to everyone about your work!

Sarah Carlsson and Hobbes, St. Paul
Hi Lynn, Thanks for checking! Meeka is doing very well with her new "how to be a really good girl" training! She has been listening wonderfully, I'm pretty impressed with her! I'm getting better at waiting until she crosses the "line" rather than stopping her when it just looks like she might be going to cross it. It's good training for me as well.

Thank you so much for your time and flexibility. I really enjoyed working with you and just learning what we did in the time we were out last Tuesday has made a significant improvement in both human and dog behavior.

Jenn, Eagan
Hi Lynn, Thanks. Butterscotch and I have enjoyed working with you in your Leash Pulling class. You have a great positive attitude and you've shown us a couple of useful things. We are managing leaving the squirrels better for the most part.

Barbara Rice, Minneapolis
Hey Lynn, Babe is doing really well. We have had several people over to the house and he hasn't barked once. Also, he is doing really well on his loose leash walking and LOVES his harness!!! He is so focused on us when we're walking he isn't going crazy on other dogs or people! Thank you so much!!! Looking forward to seeing in classes!"

Sam and G, Minneapolis
Hi Lynn. Scottie is doing really well. I told people that it's a miracle! He's not perfect (still barks and lunges if a dog's too close, but is easier to control), and he is walking beautifully next to me. he makes me proud when I walk him. The other day, someone I passed said to his friend "That's a fine-looking dog." and they were talking about my perfectly behaving pooch!

Robin Durand, Minneapolis
Lynn is a great teacher- we have been learning a lot.

Maria, Minneapolis
Hi Lynn,
Thanks for the email. The class is great! The Fuzz is doing well on sit, stand and down. He's also getting the hang of stay. You manage the class amazingly well for such a big group and we are learning lots. You rock!

Laura and The Fuzz, Minneapolis
Hi Lynn, We would like to thank you for the opportunity in participating in your classes and appreciation the wonderful progress Dozer has made with your guidance. He has become so much more than we ever thought and has added a lot of enjoyment to our family.

See ya...Grace, Clark and Dozer.
I called for information about a Level 1 Obedience Training with Lynn. She called me back directly and was very helpful in signing me up for her class. I have been impressed with the availability of our instructor and the conciseness of her class presentation and homework. I believe Oscar is doing better than I!

Jody, Minneapolis
Hi Lynn- Thanks so very much for all you did for Stella and my sanity! I have been the one and only owner to Stella who is now 3yrs of age. She has always been a VERY active boxer. At times I have questioned if there may be some sort of medication to sedate her! Stella completed puppy training and continued onto some agility training. She did well for about a month after and soon thereafter began to “act up”. I was truly at my wits end and even considering if maybe I just wasn't’t a “good fit” for her. I called Lynn at K9Coach and explained the issues I was having with Stella. Aggressive behavior when walking. It was virtually impossible to take Stella on a casual afternoon walk. The stress level would rise so much when she would see another dog I would at times be embarrassed by her behavior. Pulling constantly. With use of a gentle leader even, Stella had virtually no sense of heal, or control when out on walks. I ended up trying a choke collar which was highly against my morals and that helped somewhat but not enough of a change where I could see utilizing it on a day to day basis. Stella also struggled with the front door and house guests. Boxers are known to be jumpers and a sort of “in your face” kind of breed. Stella was/is a in your face with lots of kisses! And not everyone enjoys the kisses!

With the help of Lynn, Stella learned how to stay in “one space” and when it was ok to be invited into “the space”. She has learned how to stay in a seated position when someone knocks on the door, and has learned a bit about patience! Stella is not using a choke collar or a gentle leader now when on walks! Stella has learned to walk in “her box”. She stays to my left and watches for my command when walking. She is still working on the aggression but continues to improve. I now can control her when we see another dog and don’t feel the embarrassment override me when out with her. I always knew I had a good girl, she just needed a little extra TLC, with the help of Lynn at K9, I was able to see how good my girl truly is!

Thanks so much Lynn!

Hi Lynn! Zeke and I just went for out first full walk today with no-pulling for FOUR blocks-we saw a squirrel on block four!

Hi Lynn,
I just wanted to say thank you for being such a great teacher. We learned a lot (even if we lost it all when we lost his manhood). But anyway, thanks again. If we decide to do any more classes we will for sure be taking them with you.
