Maureen Haggerty is the founder of The Canine Coach and has developed a special way of training both dogs and people which produces amazing results. All of the trainers at The Canine Coach have been personally trained by Maureen Haggerty in her effective method of training. Maureen and Amy are a certified dog trainers (CPDTs) by the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers, the only national certification for dog trainers. Lynn is a Certified Veterinary Technician with extensive years of training experience. We are all professional members of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, which means that we advocate and practice gentle, dog-friendly methods of training, and are in discussion with other APDT members throughout the country and abroad on a regular basis.
With training over 1,500 dogs per year, we have the experience, which allows us to come up with training solutions quickly, so you get results faster. We train obedience and agility classes as well as canine behavior modification. We specialize in modifying aggressive behavior.
We utilize "clicker training”. Clicker training is based on the positive reinforcement of desired behaviors, rather than using punishment or force. Clicker training is relatively new to dog training. It was invented to train marine mammals, where the trainer is unable to physically manipulate the animal. We now have a much more sophisticated and positive way to train animals. Clicker training has now taken off in dog training over the last 10 years.
We love clicker training because it will very quickly turn your dog’s diffused energy into focus on you! This is accomplished without having to touch your dog, which means he is choosing to focus on you and offer you the behaviors you want from him. Clicker training is great for focusing the energy of high-energy dogs, piquing the interest of uninterested dogs and building the confidence in fearful and aggressive dogs. It has these wide benefits because of its positive nature.
We are active in keeping our skills and education up-to-date through industry seminars, conferences, and workshops, involvement with training clubs, competitions, and through daily dialog with colleague trainers across the country and abroad. We also learn, probably the most, through meeting pet owner's and their dogs and training through their individual problems.
We look forward to meeting you and talking with you about your dog!
